Natural Cough and Cold Remedies For Children
1. Use a Humidifier
Put a humidifier in your child’s room and make sure it is running while he or she is napping and sleeping at night.
The humidifier is beneficial because it can help to relieve a lot of the congestion, reduce the severity of the cough your child has, and make it that much easier for your little one to breathe at night.
There are a lot of kid-friendly humidifiers that come in different colors and have cute characters on them, too.
2. Give Your Child Plenty of Water to Drink
It is important for your child to stay hydrated when or she has a cold.
It is normal for people who do not feel well to avoid drinking simply because they are not in the mood for anything due to the way that they are feeling.
However, you need to make sure your child is getting plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. In addition to giving your child enough water throughout the day, you can always prepare him or her a cup of hot green tea because it can help to soothe a sore throat.
3. Give Your Child a Warm Bath With Lavender Scented Body Wash
Nothing feels as good as taking a warm bath with a lavender scented body wash when you are not feeling good. The lavender scent is known for having such a calming and soothing effect on people.
It may even help your child sleep a bit better at night.
There are different brands that sell gentle products for the skin that are safe to use on children and have that lavender scent.
After giving your child a warm bath with the body wash, you can even apply some of the lavender scented body lotion to the skin to enhance the effect that it will have on your little one.
4. Use an Essential Oil Diffuser
Many people like to use essential oils when trying to combat a cold in a natural way. You can add some essential oils to a diffuser and put the diffuser in your child’s room, making sure that he or she can reap the benefits of having the scent of the oil throughout the room.
One of the best types of essential oils to use when your child is fighting a cold is eucalyptus essential oil. It can open nasal passages, eliminate the feeling of having a stuffy nose, and clear up some of the congestion your child has been dealing with since coming down with the cold in the first place.
Rosemary and peppermint oils are also beneficial.

5. Use Honey and Lemon
If your child is at least 24 months old or older and is not allergic to honey, you can use honey and lemon as a natural way to get rid of a sore throat and a chronic cough.
Simply mix one teaspoon of honey with one teaspoon of lemon juice and then give it to your child to swallow.
It may taste a bit sour to your little one, but it truly does help with soothing the sore throat while breaking up some of that mucus that is causing your child to cough so much.
6. Give Your Little One Plenty of Frozen Treats
Frozen treats can help soothe a sore throat, too. If you are going to give your child some frozen treats, consider making them at home using a mixture of coconut water and pureed fresh fruit.
You can place the mixture into cups, put them in the freezer for a few hours, and then give the treats to your child.
Not only will your child get some extra relief, but he or she will have a serving of fruit at the same time.
Avoid giving your child ice cream or yogurt when he or she is sick because the dairy in these products could potentially cause more mucus to develop instead of getting the mucus to go away.
These are some of the most effective ways to naturally help your child fight a cold and cough when he or she is under the weather.
If you like taking a natural approach to overcome any sicknesses and you would like to make sure that your child gets better sooner instead of later, these are the types of natural techniques you should start using at home to ensure that your little one is getting relief and feeling a lot better in no time.
