This feeling should be improving day to day. Some bladder leakage after labor and delivery is common, as is difficulty controlling passing wind, or pushing out bowel motions.
However, a side effect of having children is not having a weak bladder forever.
Sadly, we have been sold a lie by companies, that it is normal to have little ‘oops’ moments when we laugh, sneeze or try and exercise.

Signs and symptoms of bladder weakness
Bladder weakness, also known as urinary incontinence, is simply when a little bit of wee leaks out when you don’t plan on doing so.
It may happen when you:

What Causes Bladder Weakness?
During pregnancy, there is enormous strain put on your pelvic floor thanks to the weight of the baby and uterus.
Pushing a baby out also stretches and bruises a lot of those same muscles and tissues, which can leave some of them numb for a few weeks.
Stretching those muscles out for 9 months, with the final assault of labor, can be enough to leave you with incontinence after having your baby.
What makes Bladder Weakness Worse?
Anything that increases the pressure that you are putting on your pelvic floor muscles without supporting and strengthening them, can make your incontinence worse.
Things like running, jumping on a trampoline and heavy lifting can certainly make it worse.
Is Urinary Incontinence something I have to live with?
Thankfully, no, there are a few solutions that you can do to help cure bladder weakness.
Ideally you will start this healing process about 12 weeks after the birth of your baby, but even if it have been years, you can still improve your bladder weakness naturally and easily.
How you can help cure bladder weakness after having a baby?
Immediately after delivery
This is your time for healing and resting. In the first 8 weeks, you need to take life easy.
- Wear a pad if you are experiencing bladder leakage
- Rest as much as you can
- Go for a gentle walk any day that you can
- Avoid heavy lifting
- Avoid strenuous exercise
8-16 weeks after delivery
Now is the time to focus on gently remembering your core and your pelvic floor.
- Very gently draw your belly button inwards on a long slow exhale while lifting your pelvic floor. Try to think of it not as a squeeze at the front, but a deep lift, right in the middle. Keep shoulders and chest relaxed. Take a few deep breaths like this whenever you remember, relaxing everything as you inhale, then contracting again as you exhale. Note: don’t push away on the inhale, just let go.
- Try to gently walk most days
- Avoid weight lifting and bouncing
- Wear a pad if you need to
